Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

ELFO highlights

What does ELFO do and what kind of software company is it?

ELFO is an Italian custom software house that builds custom software for companies in every industry. Active since 1988, it develops management applications, integrations and business intelligence solutions around each client’s real processes: the software adapts to the business, not the other way around. From manufacturing to food, from medical devices to energy, ELFO turns specific needs into tailored tools.

Why choose custom software instead of off-the-shelf?

Custom software is worth it because it shapes itself around your processes, instead of forcing your company to adapt to the tool. That difference matters: a generic standard levels everyone down, while bespoke software protects the way of working that sets you apart, which is your real competitive advantage. The benefits are concrete. Your data becomes central and reliable, your processes turn controllable end-to-end, and errors drop as manual handoffs disappear. It grows with you over time and connects with the systems you already run, rather than replacing them. And the code stays yours, so there is no vendor lock-in. It is software that fits your business, not the other way around.

Which industries and clients has ELFO worked with?

ELFO has experience across many industrial and service sectors. In food with Kraft HeinzMARS and Ferrero, in fragrances and flavors with dsm-Firmenich, in medical devices with Deenova and LivaNova, in energy with De Nora, in retail with Leroy Merlin and in eyewear with Luxottica. Last and most important, oil & gas: the sector where ELFO has the deepest experience and its longest-standing clients, including EmersonOMBPetrolvalvesValvitaliaAllied GroupOfficine Meccaniche SantafedeQuam (Bonomi Group) and Starline.

Does ELFO only build custom software, or does it offer ready-made products too?

Both. Alongside custom development, ELFO offers ready-made products born from 30+ years in oil & gas. If you would rather not start a custom project from scratch, the product suite for valve, actuator and flange manufacturers covers the most common needs immediately, at lower cost and faster. You can always begin with a product and later evolve toward a tailored solution.

What products does ELFO offer for the oil & gas industry?

ELFO offers three oil & gas products. Arianna organizes vendor document management for projects (VDLs, transmittals, Outlook integration). BPM runs the bid process, with particular focus on bulk item configurationcost calculation and producing the bid documentIron Eye uses artificial intelligence to extract data from EN 10204 mill test certificates. Together they cover the bid, project and quality chain.

Can we start with one product and move to custom software later?

Yes. You can start with a single product, for example Iron Eye for material certificates or Arianna for project documents, and expand later. The product solves a concrete problem fast and at low risk; then custom software development extends the system to other departments and integrates with your existing ERP (SAPDynamics, etc). You grow step by step, without rewriting everything.

Are there tax incentives for companies that buy software?

Yes: in Italy, companies that invest in software can access various incentives, though these change frequently. ELFO can help you gather the technical documentation required, while verifying which incentive applies is something to handle with your tax advisor.

We are subject to NIS2: can ELFO help?

If your company falls under the NIS2 scope, ELFO supports you on the software and application-security side. As part of an ISO 27001-certified group, it builds applications aligned with several NIS2 measures: access control, authentication, logging and traceability, secure integrations. NIS2 also extends obligations to the ICT supply chain, so working with a software vendor that follows recognised security standards is part of your own compliance. For governance and legal requirements you will need a dedicated advisor; ELFO covers the technology layer.

How long does it take to get a quote?

A full quote usually takes 15-20 days, and those are days that work in your favor. From the first contact we start with a discovery call; then we take the time to define the requirements, prepare a mockup and build a solid commercial proposal you can really plan around. This initial analysis is free: we study your process before putting a number on it, so the figure you receive is reasoned, not improvised. Want it faster? Come to the first call with clear processes and goals.
